Morning Devotional 030224 No Greater Love

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

  March 2, 2024

Romans 8:32-39

32 He didn’t spare his own Son but gave him up for us all. Won’t he also freely give us all things with him? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect people? It is God who acquits them. 34 Who is going to convict them? It is Christ Jesus who died, even more, who was raised, and who also is at God’s right side. It is Christ Jesus who also pleads our case for us. 35 Who will separate us from Christ’s love? Will we be separated by trouble, or distress, or harassment, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, We are being put to death all day long for your sake. We are treated like sheep for slaughter. 37 But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. 38 I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 39 or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.

Good Morning! If God is for us, then who can be against us?

Who among us would not sacrifice something for someone we love? I have read so many stories that share this idea. We might sell a precious thing so that we can have the money to buy a gift for the one we love or have money so that our loved one can go on a class trip. It might be as simple as giving up your lunch hour to spend time reading to your child’s class at school.

Most of us can relate to this idea, but God’s sacrifice to save us takes this idea to a new level. To give one’s life is the ultimate sacrifice. In our earthly world, we see this among our greatest heroes: our military, our public servants, and those who find themselves in an unexpected situation where they choose to give their own life to save another.

As hard as it is, I believe that it would be easier to sacrifice my own life than to sacrifice the life of my child. “Take me, let my child live!” God loves us so much that he sacrificed Jesus to save us. Jesus loved us so much that he stretched out his arms and died for us. No Greater Love can be given!

Gracious God, Thank you for this beautiful gift of life. You sacrificed Jesus so that we might have eternal life. We thank you! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: Jesus willingly gave His life for all.

God loves us! Pastor Liz
