Morning Devotional 092122 Living Your Best Life

Liz’s Morning Devotional: Scripture selected from Upper Room

September 21, 2022

Read: Luke 10:38-41

38 While Jesus and his disciples were traveling, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him as a guest. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his message. 40 By contrast, Martha was preoccupied with getting everything ready for their meal. So Martha came to him and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to prepare the table all by myself? Tell her to help me.” 41 The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things.

Good morning! Take time to thank God for your blessings!

“Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things.” How many times do we find ourselves consumed by our worries and distractions? If I conducted a poll asking people what stands between them and God, worries and distractions would most likely top the list.

Think about special events to which you commit your time and effort. When you have a family gathering, do you spend your time in the kitchen worrying about meal preparation? Yes, there are many things to be done, but when we are in the kitchen working during the whole gathering, we miss out on the fellowship with our family. Time together is precious and we don’t want to squander this time.

Distractions! Distractions are everywhere in our technology-infused lives. For many of us, we feel lost without our devices. All of the technology that we have at our fingertips is great. We have never been able to be so connected to the world around us, but at the same time, many are less present than ever before. For every advantage that we have created, there are even more distractions. It is so easy to “fall down a rabbit hole” while using our devices to get information. We become like Alice and totally lose track of our time and task.

Take time for what is important in your life by giving your worries over to God and minimize distractions by maintaining your focus on God and all God’s children. Share God’s love and mercy with all that you meet.

Gracious God, Thank You for loving us. Thank you for our blessings. Once again we are working on letting go of our worries. Help us! Thank you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen

Thought for the day: I can encourage others to accept God’s gift of salvation.

Don’t Worry! Be Happy! Pastor Liz
